We are looking for a Pharmacy Assistant Technical Officer Apprentice to join our team in Southport.
An exciting apprenticeship opportunity within the Pharmacy team at Southport, providing hands‑on experience, structured training and the chance to progress to a full Pharmacy Technician role.

- Participate in the receipt of medicines and sundries, sign for deliveries and put away items, ensuring stock rotation and quality.
- Assist with ward topping‑up service for stock items, checking levels and placing newly ordered items under supervision of the Technical Services Manager.
- Raise orders for wards, departments, and community clinics using the EMIS Pharmacy computer system.
- Input data into the pharmacy computer system, provide pricing lists and delivery notes.
- Assemble and pack stock for wards and associated hospitals.
- Check expiry dates of stock items on a regular basis (no less than monthly).
- Ensure appropriate return of drugs into stock and maintain accurate stock levels.
- Record and liaise with external companies for safe disposal of clinical waste, monitor refrigerator temperatures, file documentation and prescriptions.
- Answer telephone and face‑to‑face queries from staff and refer to the relevant member of the Pharmacy team when necessary.
- Liaise with Pharmacy team and ward staff to resolve supply problems.
- Cash and record contents of the dispensary till.
- Participate in annual performance appraisal reviews and set joint objectives.
- Support the operation and development of the EMIS pharmacy computer system under the Computer Systems Manager.
- Participate in Saturday and bank holiday duties and, on a voluntary basis, late‑night duties as required.
- Engage in training schemes for pharmaceutical staff and keep clinical and technical knowledge up to date.
- NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Service Skills or equivalent, or willingness to undertake the qualification and complete it within 18 months of employment.
- Experience working with computer systems and as a Dispensing Assistant.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Understanding of confidentiality and commitment to continual professional development.
- Self‑motivated, flexible and pleasant, helpful disposition.
