A full-time position (37.5 hours per week) at Ormskirk Hospital, with a salary of £25,272 per annum. This is a permanent contract.
Main duties:
- Assist the Portering team leader and provide a customer-focused service.
- Deliver an efficient and effective portering service to patients, visitors, and all wards/departments.
- Maintain the patient environment to a high standard and adhere to all safe working practices, including environmental and hygiene management.
- Move patients in beds and chairs and transport medical equipment and furniture between departments.
- Transfer specimens, pharmacy boxes, and other items throughout the hospital; use trust vehicles for pathology sample deliveries and other deliveries.
- Collect various types of waste, including potentially hazardous materials.
- Provide assistance and direction to patients and visitors.
- Collect and dispose of refuse, including clinical, domestic, confidential, special and recyclable waste.
- Brush all hospital entrances to ensure high standards.
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for staff, patients and visitors, including regular security inspections and responding to fire alarm activations.
- Issue keys and support safe patient movement, including unescorted X-ray and ECG patients.
- Move case notes in line with trust policy regarding confidentiality and data protection.
- Collect and distribute linen, store keeping including stock rotation, and medical gas checking and replacement.
- Support pharmacy work procedures as required and participate in annual refresher sessions.
- Assist with patient meals delivery in both electric and fuel-powered vehicles, including daily safety checks.
- Safely collect and transport bloods and specimens to laboratories and transport blood to and from pathology and theatre.
- Assist with transfer of bodies from wards to the mortuary, as applicable, including liaising with relatives for viewing and identification when required.

- Qualifications: Basic numeracy and literacy; Basic food hygiene qualification.
- Knowledge & Experience: Previous experience in the NHS or hospitality industry.
- Skills: Customer care skills; Ability to prioritise; Team player; Empathy; Ability to instruct other less qualified staff or students.
