This post is for a Locum Consultant in Gastroenterology. This is a whole-time fixed term post for 9 months offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Medic to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. Applicants are required to be fully registered with the General Medical Council at the time of appointment.
Main duties of the job
- Responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of patients with general medical illnesses, particularly those with gastroenterology conditions.
- In-patient care; upper and lower GI endoscopy, participation in MDT meetings, outpatient clinics and participation in the emergency endoscopy rota.
- Clinics & endoscopy sessions at Ormskirk are timetabled to enable travel time between sites as needed.
- Participation in the 24 hour / 7 day endoscopy service for GI bleeding.
- Encouraged to develop responsibilities which might relate to their special interest.
- Compliance with Trust policies and procedures, maintaining GMC registration/licensing and participation in a formal CPD programme.
- Participation in regular medical audit and in annual appraisal and job planning with the Clinical Director or one of the other qualified appraisers within the Trust.
Qualifications
- Full GMC registration at the time of appointment
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- MRCP or equivalent medical qualification
- MD/PHD or equivalent medical qualification
- CCT in Gastroenterology and General (Internal) Medicine (or within 6 months)
- European Specialty Examination in Gastroenterology and Hepatology (ESEGH)
- Advanced Life Support (ALS) Provider
- Membership of appropriate societies
Knowledge and Experience
- Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to Gastroenterology/GIM problems.
- Specialist knowledge and experience to manage, supervise and/or offer expert clinical opinion on the management of a range of gastroenterology problems both emergency and elective and within speciality including diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.
- Demonstrates the necessary range, depth and breadth of competencies specified in the Acute Medicine curriculum and applying to this post.
- Research Experience with NIHR AI or PI training.
Skills
- JAG accreditation in diagnostic/therapeutic upper & lower GI endoscopy or equivalent qualification/evidence of KPIs.
- Experience of formally supervising medical students, Foundation Programme Trainees and Higher Specialist Trainees.
- Endoscopy Training the Trainers.
- Demonstrates ability to undertake robust audit/QIP within the last 3 years.
- Research/publication/presentation in General Medicine/ Gastroenterology in peer reviewed journals or national meeting, in the last 3 years.

- Demonstrates clarity in written/spoken communication & capacity to adapt language as appropriate to the situation.
- Meets professional health requirements (in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice).
