Applications are invited for a 12 month fixed term Locum Consultant post in Respiratory and General (internal) Medicine. This is a whole-time post offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Medic to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.

Applicants are required to hold Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (UK or equivalent qualifications). Due to the short-term nature of the role / service demand, the successful candidate must hold full registration with the GMC and have existing right to live and work in the UK, at the time of application. Candidates who are not GMC registered or do not hold existing right to live and work in the UK, at the time of application will not progress through to the shortlisting stage. An Enhanced DBS with barred lists for both Adults & Children is required for this post.

Main duties of the job:

  • This full time NHS post will enable the Trust to continue the delivery of Respiratory services across the primary/secondary care interface, support delivery of acute care for respiratory patients and achieve waiting time targets for outpatients and emergency care.
  • Successful candidates will complement existing General Respiratory and lung cancer team.
  • Weekday on call commitment. The weekday on call rota (General Medicine) will be a 1 in 14 providing telephone advice between the hours of 7pm and 9am (Monday - Friday) and 5pm - 9am (Saturday & Sunday).
  • Time off in lieu or a hybrid of time off in lieu and payment can be offered for oncall commitment.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities:

This is an exciting opportunity to join a developing Respiratory service on the Southport Site at Mersey & West Lancashire Hospital. The Consultant appointments to these posts will deliver sessions of care to general medicine inpatients on the ward in conjunction with 1 General Respiratory weekly outpatient clinic, 2 Lung Cancer weekly clinics (1 for new patients and 1 for follow-up patients) on our Ormskirk site, in-reach service for a selected acute respiratory admission.
