Locum Consultant Obs & Gynae in Knowsley

We are seeking a Resident Locum Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology for a fixed‑term, 12‑month post in the NHS at Whiston Hospital.

The role involves providing full‑time clinical care, including obstetric and gynaecological services, in partnership with a team of 19 consultants and middle‑grade staff.

Job Overview

This 12‑month FT (fixed term, 10 sessions per week) post provides maternity cover until September 2027.

The successful candidate will work across general obstetrics and gynaecology, including Feto‑maternal medicine, urogynaecology, menopause, subfertility, outpatient hysteroscopy and oncology.

Main Duties

• Provide full‑time obstetric and gynaecological care with 10 sessions per week, plus 1 resident on call.
• Act as clinical lead for a specialty area that complements the department and contribute to a 60‑hour consultant presence on the labour ward.
• Share the general workload with other consultants and mid‑level staff.
• Participate in 24‑hour service provision and on call rota.
• Deliver high‑quality patient care and maintain clinical competence in line with GMC standards.

Qualifications

• Full GMC registration at the time of application.
• MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
• MRCP or equivalent.
• MD/Ph D or equivalent.
• Further higher degree.
• Knowledge
• Evidence of competency achievement to GMC standards and Good Medical Practice.
• Proficient in evidence‑based obstetric and gynaecological practice.

Skills

• Excellent written and spoken English for effective medical communication.
• Sound clinical judgment and decision‑making.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the General Obstetrics & Gynaecology curriculum.
• Specialty accreditation (e. g., RCOG ATSM) in an area such as high‑risk pregnancy, obstetric medicine, fetal medicine, urogynaecology, subfertility, benign abdominal surgery, acute gynaecology, menopause, hysteroscopy, colposcopy, vulvar disease, or labour ward lead.
• Independent management of a labour ward and participation on the consultant on call rota.
• Robust audit, research and teaching within the last three years.
• Leadership and teamwork, supervisory capacity for junior staff.
• IT skills and ability to work under pressure.
