Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our multi‑professional team at the Plastics Surgery Dressing Clinic.

We seek a committed supervisor for the ward‑based Housekeeper role, supporting clinical staff and maintaining a clean, efficient environment. Good communication skills and the ability to interact with all team members are critical.

Previous experience in a similar Housekeeper role is desirable, although not essential. Training will be provided.

Main duties of the job

The Housekeeper is key to the smooth running of the clinic, ensuring equipment is clean, functional and stocked. Duties include:

  • Carrying out regular stock checks and assisting in timely ordering.
  • Managing stock rotation to guarantee disposal within required time frames.
  • Cleaning and maintaining equipment used by ward staff such as patient monitors.
  • Carrying out equipment checks, confirming PAT testing is up to date.

Person specification

Qualifications

  • Educated to GCSE / Level 2 in Maths & English.
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene or willingness to undertake.
  • NVQ Level 2 in Cleaning services.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques.
  • Knowledge of food hygiene regulations.
  • Experience delivering cleaning or food services within a hospital or hotel environment.
  • Experience working in a customer services environment.
  • Knowledge of COSHH principles.
  • Experience dealing with complaints face to face.

Skills

  • Motivation and initiative to work alone and within a team.
  • Organising abilities and ensuring the environment supports health care.
  • Polite, approachable with patients, staff and visitors.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Ability to use information systems.
  • Confidence in dealing and negotiating with the multidisciplinary team.

  • Ability to utilise cleaning equipment, manipulate trolleys, and clean clinical equipment.

  • Exposure to emotional and distressing circumstances with mentally or physically incapacitated patients.
  • Exposure to bodily fluids as part of cleaning the ward environment.
