Full time - 37.5 hours per week (Mon‑Fri 09:00‑17:00). Fixed term 12 months – maternity cover until 15 September 2027.

Band 7, NHS AFCo, Whiston Hospital – Site Whiston Hospital, Prescot. Salary £49,387 – £56,515 per annum. Closing 13 July 2026 23:59.

Main duties of the job

  • Manage incident reporting and ensure relevant reviews are undertaken, incidents closed, and learning disseminated.
  • Provide professional and managerial support in relation to clinical risk.
  • Deputise for the Quality and Safety Matron where appropriate.
  • Assist the Quality and Safety Maternity team in achieving and maintaining high CQC standards and meeting recommendations from MBRRACE, NPSA and other agencies.
  • Identify incidents requiring reporting to the Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch (HSIB) and support the reporting and investigation process.
  • Participate in the Perinatal Mortality Review Process, notify cases and contribute to case surveillance and report drafting.
  • Coordinate Avoiding Term Admissions Into Neonatal (ATAIN) reviews with the NNU team and disseminate learning.
  • Lead risk activities including guidelines, audits, serious incidents, near‑miss reporting and Duty of Candour.

Qualifications

  • Registered Midwife with current NMC registration.
  • Evidence of degree or evidence of degree‑level study, or willingness to work towards one.
  • Evidence of post‑registration education.

  • Works well under pressure and demonstrates experience of meeting project deadlines.
  • Knowledge and awareness of governance principles in healthcare and maternity.
  • Experience and understanding of governance processes and development of guidelines and protocols.
  • Experience in teaching, mentoring and governance reporting systems.
