Salary: £113,565 – £150,569 per annum (Grade YM 72).

Working hours: 10 sessions per week covering on‑call.

Job overview: This is a substantive Consultant Radiologist post with a sub‑speciality interest in Gynaecology, Urology and Gastro‑intestinal imaging. The position is full‑time, with potential for extended working. The successful candidate will be based at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Main duties of the job:

  • Maintain and expand the department workload, supporting MDT meetings and meeting waiting list targets.
  • Participate in the on‑call rota, including general and interventional radiology duties (hours 5pm–9am weekdays, 9am–3pm weekends).
  • Provide supervision and training of trainees from the Mersey Region Training Scheme and University of Liverpool.
  • Support the department’s accreditation and governance processes (e.g., Quality Standard for imaging, QSI).

Person specification and responsibilities:

The successful candidate will:

  • Contribute to the general workload and flexible on‑call service.
  • Lead in Gynaecology MDT and attend Urology MDT meetings.
  • Report cross‑sectional Gynaecological and Urological imaging independently.
  • Report general X‑ray, US, CT, and MRI imaging.
  • Solve problems and make decisions on complex cases.
  • Suspend, supervise, and train junior medical staff.
  • Conduct audit and research within the team.

Qualifications:

  • Full GMC registration and specialist registration, or within six months of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at interview.
  • UK‑trained with CCT, OR evidence of equivalence for overseas‑trained applicants.
  • MB ChB (or equivalent) and FRCR (or equivalent) qualifications.
  • UK‑trained applicants must be within six months of CCT award; overseas applicants must provide evidence of equivalence to UK CCT.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

  • Extensive clinical training in radiology.
  • Leadership experience in Gynaecology MDT.
  • Emergency imaging and on‑call experience.
  • Independent reporting of cross‑sectional Gynaecological and Urological imaging.
  • Independent reporting of general X‑ray, US, CT, and MRI imaging.
  • Proficiency with PACS and other radiology IT systems.
  • Evidence of teaching within the last three years.
  • Capacity to supervise junior medical staff.
  • Capacity to undertake audit or research within three years of appointment.
  • Exposure to Lower GI reporting.
  • Understanding of appraisal and assessment for radiology trainees.
