Job overview
Part Time – 22.5 hours per week
The post holder will also assist doctors/nurses with procedures, chaperoning and provide patients with the relevant health promotion leaflets.
The post holder will prepare all consulting rooms ensuring the necessary documentation is available for clinicians and ensure all equipment and examination beds are cleaned and all consulting rooms are prepared prior to and on finishing each clinic.
The post holder will ensure all stock is stored away correctly according to hospital policy and identify areas that are over/under stocked and highlight them to senior staff.
Following a period of training, the post holder will also carry out vision testing and carry out various diagnostic tests using computerised equipment such as:
- Visual Field Assessment
- Biometry
- Pentacam
- Auto refractor
- Focimetry
- Keratometry
- iCare

Main duties of the job
- Assist the doctor and trained staff in the smooth running of the clinic.
- Take part in a period of training to be competent in vision testing, instillation of drops and appropriate diagnostic investigations using IT-related equipment required for doctors and nurses.
- Prepare and ensure all consulting rooms are ready for use before the commencement of specific clinics including cleaning rooms as per hospital policy and that all necessary documentation is available for use by the clinician.
- Utilising IT skills ensure patient electronic records are updated and available for consultation and contain relevant information before and during the commencement of the clinic using appropriate IT platforms.
- Under the direction of the nurse in charge of the clinic assist the clinician in any patient procedures and chaperone patients when required ensuring patient privacy and dignity is maintained.
- Carry out appropriate patient care after appropriate training under the supervision of the nurse in charge.
- Supporting nurse in charge/Coordinator at the triage desk by handling calls, taking messages from patients via phone or face to face and passing onto the appropriate person.
- At the conclusion of clinics ensure consulting rooms are cleaned and tidied and ensure all necessary documentation is directed to the appropriate department.
