Job overview: An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health Care Assistant to join our Cardio Respiratory Team on a Permanent Basis. The post-holder will carry out assigned tasks involving direct care in support of and supervised by a Registered Nurse on the recovery ward and catheter lab in the Cardiac Diagnostic Centre.

Main duties of the job:

• To work as part of the MDT team undertaking support tasks and direct care tasks as delegated by the Nurse in Charge.
• To support the qualified Nursing Staff in the maintenance of high standards of nursing care to patients.
• To assist in providing an environment within the CDC that is conducive to a positive patient experience before, during and after their procedure.
• To accept responsibility for specifically delegated functions within the CDC which the Nurse in Charge feels are appropriate.
• Take and record temperatures, pulses, blood pressures, respirations and oxygen saturation readings, blood glucose.
• Assist in the general cleanliness and tidiness of ward area including kitchen sluice and storerooms.
• To safely dispose of clinical waste and sharps as per trust policy.
• To assist in the documentation of patients records both written and electronic in accordance with the trust policy.
• Answer telephone in the correct manner and take messages as appropriate or refer to nurse in charge.
• Assist with unpacking and checking of stores as required.
• Undertake cleaning and correct storage of equipment.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities:

• Work as part of a team and duties will be delegated by the registered healthcare professional.
• Act within the scope of your training and competence, knowing who to ask for help and support if you are not sure.
• Communicate compassionately and effectively with individuals and their families, carers and health care practitioners.
• Observe, assess and respond to personal care patient’s needs appropriately, escalating concerns to nursing staff, as required.
• Organise self in general work tasks or when delivering patient care with supervision where needed.
• Safely deliver care duties including manoeuvring of patient equipment (such as hoists and wheelchairs).
• Support of patients feeding, diet and nutritional needs and accurately record patients nutritional intake and fluid intake and output.
• Ensure patient property is managed as per Trust policy.
• Monitor levels of supplies and order supplies for the department as appropriate.
• Contribute to maintaining a safe, healthy working environment.

Qualifications:

• Completion of Trust Care Certificate within 4 months of appointment.
• Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
• NVQ level 2 Health and Social Care or equivalent.

Knowledge & Experience:

• Knowledge of personal care and related procedures.
• Experience of working in a team.
• Experience of working in a patient care/health related role.
