About Us
Counter Terrorism Policing Northwest (CTPNW) is a collaboration of five police forces working together to deliver specialist Counter Terrorism (CT) services across the region and as part of the national CT network. Our mission is simple yet vital: to keep people safe from terrorism.
The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and committed Principal Counter Terrorism Security Advisor (CTSA) to lead and develop our Protect Team. This team plays a critical role in delivering the Protect strand of the Government’s CONTEST strategy, which aims to strengthen security measures and reduce vulnerability to terrorist threats.
As Principal CTSA, you will:
- Manage, support, and develop a team of CTSAs, Awareness Advisors (CTAAs), and Administrators.
- Ensure professional standards, performance management, and quality assurance across the team.
- Facilitate staff in achieving accredited CTSA status.
- Support the regional Protect and Prepare lead in supervision and strategic direction across the Northwest region.
This is a leadership role requiring strong operational knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to influence and collaborate with partners at all levels.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide counter terrorism security advice for crowded places and hazardous sites.
- Advise on securing dangerous substances, including explosives, chemicals, pathogens, and radiological materials.
- Support the National Protective Security Authority (NPSA) in protecting Critical National Infrastructure.
- Offer guidance on personal security for vulnerable individuals.
- Drive continuous improvement and resilience within the Protect Team.
Essential Requirements
- Accredited Counter Terrorism Security Advisor (CTSA).
- UK Nationality (dual nationals may be considered in approved circumstances).
- Ability to obtain and maintain National Security Vetting (SC(e)), with willingness to undergo Developed Vetting (DV) if required.
- Proven leadership and team management experience.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Vetting & Nationality Requirements
This is a designated post under the Force Vetting Strategy. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) at SC(e) level before taking up the post. For enhanced vetting, applicants should have resided in the UK for the last 10 years.
