Detective Constable Entry Program (DCEP)
This programme is a non‑accredited pathway into policing that is designed for candidates with or without an undergraduate degree. You will start as a uniformed police officer, learning the ropes in a range of policing departments and specialisms. After the first 24 months and successful completion of your probation, you will be posted to the Investigations Strand where you will develop your knowledge and skills specifically as a detective, learning how to manage and investigate a range of serious criminal offences. This can include working in areas such as safeguarding, intelligence and child protection, all while being supported by a competent and trained detective mentor.
About the Programme
Once qualified, you will sit the National Investigators Exam (NIE) and, upon passing, undertake your detective portfolio/PIP2 courses before being recognised as a qualified detective. The programme covers practical on‑the‑job experience, classroom sessions, scenario‑based training, virtual learning and assessments. It equips you with the skills and experience needed to meet the demands of modern policing.
Diversity and Inclusion
We aim to attract and keep a workforce that represents the communities we serve. We particularly welcome applications from women and Black & ethnic minority candidates. If you require any reasonable adjustments during the recruitment process, please let us know so that we can support you.
