About the Role

We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented HOLMES Indexer to provide critical research and indexing support within Major Incident Rooms (MIR). This role is central to supporting Senior Investigating Officers (SIOs) and investigation teams by ensuring accurate, structured, and accessible information systems that underpin major crime investigations.

You will play a vital role in the success of investigations by managing and interpreting large volumes of information, helping to identify key intelligence, and ensuring enquiry teams are equipped with the information they need to act quickly and effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse, interpret, and index all incoming information including messages, statements, and documents into HOLMES or manual systems
  • Develop and maintain accurate and comprehensive databases to support investigations from inception
  • Conduct detailed research to identify potential suspects, witnesses, and evidential links
  • Extract and assess key information to support enquiry officers and investigative decision-making
  • Highlight critical findings, anomalies, or risks to the Senior Investigating Officer via appropriate channels
  • Receive and accurately record information from a range of sources, including witnesses and external contacts
  • Handle telephone enquiries within the Major Incident Room with professionalism and precision
  • Support Casualty Bureau operations as required

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Strong research and analytical capability
  • Qualified as a HOLMES Indexer (HOLMES II or equivalent conversion from HOLMES I)
  • Excellent attention to detail and data accuracy
  • Ability to maintain concentration over long periods
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Adaptability and resilience in high-profile investigations
  • Commitment to confidentiality and professional standards
  • Full driving licence desirable due to travel within or beyond the force area as required
