About the role

As an Intelligence Researcher, you will play a vital role in transforming raw information into meaningful data that supports the work of Intelligence Analysts and specialist investigations. Your research will help identify crime patterns, emerging trends, and key threats—contributing directly to the safety and security of communities across Merseyside.

  • Strategic Intelligence Analysis and Investigation Support – Based at OCC
  • Tactical Analysis – Based at OCC
  • Local Intelligence Analysis Teams – Based at Wallasey (Wirral), Marsh Lane (Sefton), Huyton (Knowsley), St Helens and St Anne Street (Liverpool)

This role works to the flexi policy. You may express an interest in your preferred role but may be moved into another team to support a business need if required.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of intelligence products by researching and analysing information from a wide range of sources.
  • Help identify crime series, hotspots, and persons of interest by evaluating intelligence in line with Threat, Harm, and Risk principles and force priorities.
  • Work closely with analysts and officers to fill intelligence gaps and provide data-driven insights that guide operational decision-making.
  • Prepare and present your findings clearly—both in writing and verbally—to inform and direct police activity.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and partner agencies to support effective information sharing and collaboration.

  • Professionally curious and proactive in scanning and evaluating intelligence sources to spot patterns, trends, and emerging threats across a range of crime types.
  • Comfortable working with large datasets, ensuring accuracy and enhancing data to support analysis and dissemination.
  • A clear communicator, confident in presenting research findings in a clear, concise, and actionable way to support operational policing.
  • Able to work collaboratively and motivated to build strong relationships with internal teams and external partners to support joint working and intelligence sharing.

  • Skills assessment (in-person, 2.5 hours)
  • Formal structured interview
