Counter Terrorism Policing North West (CTPNW) is a five-force collaboration delivering Counter Terrorism (CT) services to our regional forces as well as forming part of the national CT Network. CTPNW’s mission is to work together to keep people safe from terrorism. We are looking for a committed and outstanding individual who can support CTPNW in achieving its mission.

There is an exciting opportunity to become the Senior Ports Officer for CTPNW based within Liverpool John Lennon Airport. The post holder will have responsibility for the Aviation and Maritime ports spanning Cheshire, Merseyside, Lancashire and Cumbria. The SPO will oversee teams of PC/DC’s and supervising Officers, also overseeing the Regional Control Desk based at Merseyside’s Operational Command Centre. You will be required to travel across these sites to maintain command and control and engage with key stakeholders. The applicant needs to be capable of commanding teams over large geographical areas and a variety of different taskings within port environments. Senior Ports Officers support the Regional Senior Ports Officer in the daily administration of the unit and wider regional and national taskings and act as deputy on behalf of the CTPNW Borders team.

CTPNW Borders are responsible for the utilisation of Schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act (2000) and Schedule 3 of the Counter Terrorism Border Security Act (2015) and are required to accredit in the relevant legislation as both an examining and review officer. You will work alongside a variety of different partner agencies and be required to communicate effectively with key stakeholders to deliver national objectives.

Other Information – UK Nationality: You must be a UK National to work for CTPNW. In approved circumstances dual nationals (of which one element is British) may also be considered. For the purposes of safeguarding national security, applicants will be required to hold or acquire the appropriate national security vetting clearance. However, in the event that potential conflicts of interest cannot be managed the post holder will not be able to see the intelligence material and therefore will not be able to perform their duties. Vetting Requirements: This is a designated post under the Force Vetting Strategy and the post will therefore require applicants to hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) level before taking up the post. For the purpose of safeguarding national security and in line with Cabinet Office Policy, supported by Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), applicants who do not hold or acquire Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) or Developed Vetting (DV) clearance and meet the nationality requirements cannot be offered the post. For further information regarding the National Security Vetting process, please refer to the official guidance.

Please note for applications which carry enhanced vetting you should have resided in the UK for the last 5/10 years.

As at 1st April 2022, the HR Secondment Model was implemented for all posts at CTPNW. This means that all officer and staff posts that are based in Cheshire, Cumbria, Lancashire or Merseyside, are seconded to CTPNW c/o Greater Manchester Police. If you are a police officer from any of the 4 forces named above and are successful in your application for a CTPNW police officer post, you will be seconded to CTPNW c/o GMP and you will be located at Merseyside Police. If you are a police officer from GMP, you will be seconded to CTPNW and you will be located at Merseyside Police. If you are a police officer from any other Force you will transfer to Merseyside Police and be seconded to CTPNW c/o GMP. You will be located at Merseyside Police. Please note, your service will transfer over to your new force with you.
