About the Opportunity

We are offering an exciting paid placement for a motivated and enthusiastic student to join our Forensic Services Department for a 12-month industry placement. What You’ll Be Doing

As a Student Placement within the Forensic Laboratory, you will support the team with a range of tasks, which may include:

  • Complete supervised examinations of items within the Forensic Enhancement Laboratory (FEL) and as requested, at crime scenes for the recovery of friction ridge detail.
  • Conduct supervised examinations of developed impressions to determine if friction ridge detail is present.
  • Document findings and outcomes, ensuring accuracy and proportionality, in order to assist with investigations and ensure that accurate findings are delivered.
  • Assist staff in ensuring the laboratory environment, vehicle, equipment, stock levels and waste materials are appropriately maintained. Under supervision, complete necessary cleaning requirements, checks, and batch testing to ensure an efficient and effective laboratory service and compliance to all requirements.
  • Be responsible for the production of witness statements in relation to your involvement in the forensic process, recognising your overriding duty is to the court and the administration of justice.
  • Assist with the provision of advice, guidance, and awareness in relation to your area of forensic activity to internal personnel, to ensure they have a full understanding of forensic processes and procedures.
  • As instructed, work in compliance with the Quality Standards framework to ensure its continuous improvement and maintenance of accreditation.

Your work will contribute directly to the department's objectives and provide valuable real-world experience.
