Station Assistants are the face of Merseyrail and therefore play a vital part in the success of our business.
Working within the stations function you gain experience as we touch every part of the business, therefore providing a good grounding as to how Merseyrail works as a business and insight into our customer base.
Important Notes:
- These are fulltime (35 hours) permanent roles, working various shifts including weekends and Bank holidays.
- The salary is £23,842 for up to 4 weeks training and following completion of training the salary will increase to £27,735 per annum.
- This role requires you to be on shift before the first service and after our train services finish; you must be able to make your own way to and from work and will not be able to rely on the train service.

The recruitment consists of a number of progressive stages; you may be unsuccessful at any of these stages and unfortunately feedback will not be available due to the high volume of applicants.
Recruitment Stages:
- Stage 1: complete an Online assessment, by Midnight Tuesday 24th February, anyone submitting after this date will automatically be rejected.
- Stage 2: complete an application which must be received by Midnight Friday 6th March.
- Stage 3: Assessment Day - Wednesday 18th March
- Stage 4: Interviews - week commencing 23rd March
If progressed through all stages, you must be available for a start date of Monday 4th May 2026 and for the duration of the 4 weeks training.
To be successful you would need to have a basic knowledge of the role, Merseyrail network and the company. As part of the recruitment process, a pre-employment medical, including a Drugs & Alcohol test, will be required.
Your Day-to-Day:
- You will be required to work a shift pattern which includes booking on prior to and after the commencement of service and cover 7 days per week, including weekends and Bank Holidays.
- Stand for long periods of time and rotate to undertake various tasks including manual handling and cleaning duties.
- Able to work in a challenging, ever-changing environment.
- Demonstrate ownership and pride in our stations while on duty and adhere to Merseyrail’s Rules & Regulations.
