ADHD services are undergoing an exciting and progressive transformation program. We have a fantastic opportunity for two experienced and enthusiastic Non Medical Prescribers to join the Adult ADHD Service in Halton and Knowsley. The post holders will carry out initial assessments of service users following agreed practice guidelines as part of a multi-disciplinary team and participate in the shared caseload of the team. As Non-Medical Prescribers, the post holders will be responsible for commencing medication, titration, and monitoring the effectiveness of selected treatment. The post holder will operate as part of an integrated Adult ADHD team but be expected to be flexible in terms of delivering care within a variety of environments. We adopt a shared decision-making approach, empowering patients to make informed choices about their care.

Main duties of the job

  • Formulate, contribute to, and participate in, the development and implementation of assessment and care planning systems in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Manage a case load within the Adult ADHD team.
  • Carry out generic and specialist assessments, including risk and provide therapeutic interventions.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of integrated care pathways, including appropriate service user assessments/referrals and models of care.
  • Ensure record keeping is in accordance with Professional and Trust standards.
  • Ensure the safe management of medicines and adhere to safe practice and principles of administration in accordance with the NMC code of professional conduct and Trust Medicines Code.
  • Work in a professional and collaborative manner with the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Participate and promote positive intra-agency working.
  • Responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care without supervision.
  • Participate and assist in setting standards of service user care based on sound research findings.
  • Act as knowledge resource in specialist area of practice to other team members and other agencies as required.

Person specification

Qualifications

  • 1st level Nurse registration in either learning disability or Mental Health
  • Master’s Degree (or experience and knowledge that is equivalent)
  • Current NMC registration

Knowledge/Experience

  • Post registration experience of working with people with learning disabilities
  • Experience working with staff teams, providing consultancy and clinical supervision.
  • Experience of working with service users who have learning disabilities and complex needs
  • Experience in the use of forensic risk assessment and management.
  • Experience in the management of staff
  • Experience of Positive Behavioural Support and Person-Centred Planning.
  • Experience of staff training and development.
  • Experience of communicating with people on complex matters, issues and ideas and/or complex situations.
  • Experience of supervising staff.
  • Knowledge of the structure, roles and responsibilities within health and social care provision
  • Experience working within a community based service
  • Experience of individual interventions

Skills

  • Ability to provide specialist advice on care to other staff groups.
  • Ability to work in a multiagency context.
  • Competent IT Skills in order to prepare reports, diagrams, drawing in relation to clinical practice and teaching.
  • Skills in the assessment of complex behaviours using a variety of methods including analysis and interpretation.
