Role Overview

This role offers exposure to a diverse range of service environments, supporting both your professional and clinical development. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality patient care. You will utilise your clinical skills to provide first aid and minor treatments, as well as assist in urgent and emergency care situations. The position involves responding to both emergency and non-emergency incidents, always delivering compassionate, professional care within your defined scope of practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assessing, treating, and transporting patients and service users in line with Mersey Medical policies and procedures, including the delivery of pre-hospital emergency care.
  • Ensuring all patient, vehicle, and equipment documentation is completed accurately and submitted as required.
  • Gathering and communicating relevant information from patients, carers, and others at the scene, maintaining strict confidentiality at all times.
  • Identifying and escalating any concerns relating to a patient’s social or environmental conditions.
  • Supporting infection prevention and control measures through regular cleaning of vehicles, equipment, and facilities.
  • Safely and legally driving company vehicles in both emergency and non-emergency situations, prioritising patient comfort and safety.
  • Carrying out routine vehicle and equipment checks to ensure operational readiness, reporting any defects in accordance with company procedures.
  • Acting as the senior team member with overall clinical responsibility when working alongside a Patient Transport Attendant.
  • Maintaining and developing your professional competence through continuous professional development and undertaking any additional duties appropriate to your role, skills, and experience.

Essential Requirement

  • Minimum of a Valid FREC 4 certification or equivalent/above + ILS with more than 3 months left to expire.
  • Previous experience in emergency response or pre-hospital care is preferred.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Full Manual Driving Licence.
  • Supernumerary shifts.

  • CERAD or IHCD D1/D2 Blue Light Qualification.
  • AAP Qualification.
  • IHCD Technician Qualification.
  • FREUC 5 qualified.
  • NHS Qualified UCS or EMT qualification.
  • C1 License preferable.

Personal Qualities

  • Aged 18 and over, due to vehicle insurance purposes.
  • Great communication skills, gained from dealing with members of the public from a range of different backgrounds.
  • A caring and compassionate nature.
  • A willingness to learn.

Working as part of an ambulance crew, excellent communication, caring and time management skills are a must, as you will support and care for a range of patients with different conditions, mobility and disabilities. In order to fulfil this role you must hold a full and valid UK driving licence, be physically fit so you can undertake the manual handling of patients and equipment, have previous experience in customer support and preferably patient care experience.
