An established and growing manufacturer of water-based industrial coatings is seeking a practical, customer-focused Technical Service & Development Chemist to join its technical team. This is a varied, hands-on position that combines laboratory formulation work with customer-facing technical support. The successful candidate will play an important role in developing and improving industrial coating products, investigating technical issues, supporting customer trials, and helping customers achieve successful product implementation.
The role offers an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys balancing laboratory work, problem-solving, and direct customer interaction.
Role:
- Reporting to the Technical Manager, you will work closely with technical, production, quality and commercial teams to support both new product development and existing customer projects.
Responsibilities:
- Developing and improving water-based industrial coating formulations.
- Preparing laboratory batches and evaluating product performance.
- Conducting testing and maintaining accurate technical records.
- Investigating product, application and manufacturing issues.
- Preparing and managing customer samples and trial materials.
- Supporting customer trials and technical evaluations.
- Visiting customer sites to provide technical support, troubleshooting and training.
- Working alongside sales colleagues to support new business opportunities and product conversions.
- Assisting with scale-up activities and production trials.

Candidate Profile:
- Practical experience and technical aptitude is key to this role rather than specific academic qualifications.
