We are seeking an experienced Senior Laboratory / Facility Electrical Engineer for our Life Sciences business unit.

This position requires a competent professional engineer who will be responsible for all phases of engineering production and BIM for a variety of work ranging from programming through construction administration.
This includes interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating the design and production effort for one or more large or complex projects.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Undertake the design of electrical building services for government, higher education, research, healthcare and commercial facilities, including laboratories and life sciences facilities.
- Produce concept, developed and detailed electrical designs for low-voltage (400/230 V) power distribution, high-voltage (11 k V) site distribution, standby power generation, earthing and lightning protection systems, lighting, structured cabling, telecommunications, fire detection and alarm systems, voice alarm/mass notification systems, security, access control and other specialist building systems.
- Prepare supporting engineering documentation, including design calculations, technical reports, specifications, schedules and design assessments.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of UK legislation, the Building Regulations, British Standards, CIBSE guidance and industry codes of practice, including BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations), BS 5839, BS 5266, BS 9999, BS EN 62305, Building Regulations Approved Documents, and other applicable BS EN, IEC and ISO standards.
- Liaise with clients, end users and project stakeholders to define, review and validate project scope, technical requirements and design objectives.
- Prepare engineering fee proposals, resource estimates and technical submissions.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary design teams to deliver coordinated engineering solutions that meet programme, quality and budget requirements.
- Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, project teams and other stakeholders, both verbally and in writing.
- Work effectively within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment.
- Produce accurate, high-quality engineering deliverables with exceptional attention to detail.
- Manage workload effectively to consistently achieve project milestones and delivery programmes.
- Undertake site surveys, inspections, commissioning support and travel as required to facilitate project delivery.
- Prepare, review and edit technical specifications in accordance with client and project requirements.
- Lead, supervise and mentor junior engineers and technicians, allocate design responsibilities, undertake technical reviews and support the management and development of the local engineering team.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while exercising sound professional judgement.
- Operate within the organisation’s hybrid working arrangements, combining site-based and remote working in accordance with business and project requirements.
- REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of twelve (12) years’ experience in the design of electrical building services for commercial, institutional, government, healthcare, life sciences or laboratory facilities.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng), registered with the Engineering Council through an appropriate Professional Engineering Institution (e.
IET or CIBSE), or demonstrably close to achieving Chartered status.
- Proficient in Autodesk Revit, Auto CAD and other BIM/CAD design software.
- Experience using electrical engineering analysis software, including ETAP, SKM Power*Tools, Easy Power, AGi32 and Elum Tools, for power system studies, fault analysis, protection coordination and lighting calculations.
- Comprehensive knowledge of UK legislation, Building Regulations, British Standards and international engineering standards applicable to electrical building services, including BS 7671, BS 5839, BS 5266, BS 9999, BS EN 62305, CIBSE Guides, Building Regulations Approved Documents, and applicable BS EN, IEC, ISO and IEEE standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare high-quality technical reports, specifications and client presentations.
- Strong organisational, planning and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Applicants must be eligible to obtain UK Security Check (SC) clearance.
- Client projects for this position requires British citizenship or an immigration status that permits the granting of UK security clearance is essential.
- DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience delivering electrical engineering design for high-containment laboratories, research facilities and life sciences projects for organisations such as the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA), the Medical Research Council (MRC), NHS Trusts, universities and other government or research organisations.
- Experience with international laboratory clients, including the USDA, Agricultural Research Service (ARS) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), would be advantageous.
- BEng, BSc (Hons) or MEng in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Experience applying Health Technical Memoranda (HTM 06 series), HBN guidance, ACDP guidance and other standards relevant to healthcare and laboratory environments.
- Experience of electrical design for containment laboratories (CL2, CL3 and CL4), pharmaceutical, biotechnology or advanced manufacturing facilities.
