About the Opportunity
Merrick is seeking an experienced Key Account Manager to join our team. This pivotal role requires the ability to lead the Merrick team in the interaction with key existing and new clients, manage project schedules, optimize resource allocation, and control project costs across multiple projects. The successful candidate will provide direct support to Merrick clientele, ensuring seamless contract administration and effective project execution. Key responsibilities include working with clients to establish needs, developing opportunities and writing detailed proposals, and leading the technical execution of projects and the Merrick project team. The Project Manager will support a team of architects, engineers, subcontractors, and subject matter experts involved in biocontainment laboratory and pharmaceutical facility design, operations and commissioning/validation.
This position is a full-time work from home position with a moderate volume of travel (up to 40%) for client and market engagement.
WHAT YOU\’LL DO
A significant aspect of this role is interfacing with Merrick\’s clients to execute project work, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate overall efforts on high-visibility projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong client-facing skills and the ability to engage with clients and contacts at various levels of expertise. They should be adept at managing multiple projects simultaneously while focusing on resource optimization and cost control. The candidate should also be proficient at coordinating internal resources across multiple geographical locations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Key Account Manager (KAM): Act as the main point of contact for the client and maintain general oversight of all projects with the client. Communicate resourcing needs across project portfolio.
- Schedule Management: Be responsible for detailed project schedules using Microsoft Project and Primavera P6 and ensuring timely completion of project milestones.
- Resource Allocation: Efficiently allocate resources across multiple projects, optimizing usage and avoiding conflicts to ensure project goals are met.
- Cost Control: Track and manage project costs, ensuring adherence to budgets and financial targets. Provide regular cost reports and forecasts to project stakeholders.
- Pharmaceutical: Work with pharmaceutical clients in navigating solutions for R&D facilities and manufacturing processes with an understanding of impact on validation, security of supply and GDP/GMP.
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks related to scheduling, resource allocation, and costs. Develop mitigation strategies to ensure project continuity.
- Client Coordination: Collaborate closely with the client to understand project requirements and ensure their expectations are met throughout the project lifecycle.
- Reporting: Generate detailed progress reports, including schedule updates, resource allocation, and cost performance for internal and client review.
- Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, team members, and stakeholders to ensure alignment on project goals and deliverables.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have a minimum of ten (10) years’ experience with managing project scope, schedule, resource allocation, and budget on large projects (>£3 M consulting fees).
- Proven experience in project management with a deep understanding of project management tools, including Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
- Must have a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in GMP pharmaceutical cleanroom manufacturing facilities.
- Must have experience in the usage and maintenance of clean utilities such as WFI, Clean Steam, CIP/SIP systems and Autoclaves.
- Demonstrable experience in change and change management, stakeholder management and schedule management experience.
- Must have executed well in client facing roles with a high degree of success.
- Extensive experience with multidisciplinary projects.
- Has managed various project types including, design and professional services.
- Exceptional verbal, written and presentation communication competencies for all audience types.
- Strong ability to take complicated topics and concisely present them.
- Ability to lead teams in the identification of priorities.
- Must have critical thinking skills.
- Extensive experience with Quality Management Systems.
- Experience in executing CAPAs and root cause analyses.
- Understanding of pharmaceutical Validation phases.
- Be able to obtain low-level security clearance and background checks for work with the UK Government and Commercial clients.
- The ability to travel up to 40% to client sites and business development events throughout the UK.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
- Site project management in the architectural/engineering services.
- Relevant certifications in project management (e.g., PMP, P2P).
- Experience with the design, performance, quality, and compliance processes of:
- Aseptic manufacturing
- Pharmaceutical Research & Development and Manufacturing facilities
- Radiopharmaceutical and Medical Device manufacturing
- Good working knowledge of the biocontainment, biosafety and biosecurity field, emerging technologies, government/academic/industrial programs.
