  • Senior Data Analyst

Merlin is transforming its business through sustainable growth and stronger technology capability.

We’re looking for an experienced Data Analyst to turn trusted data into clear insight and practical recommendations that improve decision-making, performance and business outcomes.

Using Data Products from the Lakehouse, you’ll answer complex business questions, identify trends and advise stakeholders on what the insight means.

Working across Business, Data Modelling and Reporting, you’ll shape analytical questions, support robust definitions and help ensure insight is understood, challenged and used to create measurable business value.

Responsibilities

  • Insight Generation and Analysis
  • Analyse trusted Data Products to identify trends, opportunities and performance drivers.
  • Turn business questions into clear analytical approaches, using the right methods to uncover insight.
  • Provide evidence-based recommendations that explain what is happening, why it matters and what action to take.
  • Own the insight journey from problem definition through to recommendation and impact measurement.
  • Business Partnering
  • Partner with teams across Finance, Operations, Growth and Digital to understand priorities and define success.
  • Present insight clearly to technical, non-technical and senior audiences to support decisions.
  • Challenge assumptions and highlight risks where data does not support a conclusion.
  • Manage competing priorities, balancing pace with analytical rigour
  • Data Validation and Quality Feedback
  • Validate Data Products, spotting gaps, inconsistencies and data quality issues before insight is shared.
  • Work with Data Engineering and Data Modelling to improve definitions and resolve issues affecting trust.
  • Support consistent KPI logic, interpretation guidance and analytical standards.
  • Enabling Reporting and Consumption
  • Support BI / Report Analysts with clear logic, definitions and reporting requirements.
  • Shape dashboards and reports so they deliver meaningful, consistent insight.
  • Improve self-service analytics, reduce duplicated logic and build confidence in reporting.
  • Community and Capability Development
  • Contribute to the Analyst Community of Practice by sharing standards and strong insight examples.
  • Coach others in analytical thinking, data interpretation and use of trusted Data Products.
  • Promote best practice in data usage, documentation and storytelling across the organisation.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Significant experience in a Data Analyst, Insight Analyst, Analytics Consultant or equivalent role, ideally within a complex, multi-source data environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL and analytical techniques, with the ability to interrogate, join, profile and validate large datasets.
  • Experience defining KPIs, metrics, business rules and interpretation guidance that support consistent decision-making.
  • Strong experience using Power BI or similar visualisation tools, with an understanding of how dashboards and reports should enable business decisions.
  • Understanding of modern data platforms such as Databricks, Azure or Fabric, and experience working with curated data models or semantic layers, is desirable.
  • Experience working with senior stakeholders, cross-functional teams or product-led data environments, with the confidence to challenge assumptions and influence decisions.
  • Degree in a quantitative discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
