Job Description
MERJE is seeking a highly skilled Senior Risk Manager to take on a lead role and the new position of Head of Risk for this dynamic and successful insurance company. This pivotal role involves designing and implementing a robust risk management framework, shaping risk culture, and aligning risk strategy with ambitious growth plans. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and deep technical expertise in insurance and operational risk management and excellent stakeholder skills.
Salary: £90,000 – £100,000
Location: London /Surrey (very flexible working available)

The Role
The Head of Risk position offers an exciting opportunity to lead the development of the Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF) and work closely with senior stakeholders. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on risk management, ensuring compliance with FCA regulations and fostering a culture of risk awareness across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities of the Head of Risk:
- Design and implement the company's risk strategy and ERMF
- Oversee risk registers, RCSAs, scenario analysis, and KRI dashboards
- Provide second-line oversight across key insurance and operational risk areas
- Ensure compliance with FCA regulations and support Board Risk Committee engagement
- Build and lead a risk team suited to the scale and ambition of the business
Required knowledge and experience for the Head of Risk role:
- Proven track record in a risk leadership role within insurance or financial services
- Experience in building and embedding risk frameworks in growing organisations
- Deep understanding of insurance and operational risk management
- Strong working knowledge of FCA regulatory framework, including Consumer Duty
- Excellent communication and influencing skills at senior management and board level
- Ability to work effectively cross functionally
