A regulated insurance group is seeking a Compliance Monitoring Officer to join its Compliance & Risk team. The Compliance function plays a critical role in ensuring the business operates in line with FCA requirements, protects its reputation, and embeds strong governance, risk and compliance practices across the organisation.

This role is focused on operating and delivering the Compliance Monitoring Programme, carrying out thematic and periodic reviews, and providing insight and assurance to senior management on conduct risk, regulatory adherence and control effectiveness. You’ll work closely with first-line teams, acting as a key point of contact for compliance monitoring activity while promoting a strong compliance culture across the business.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate the Compliance Monitoring Programme, ensuring all monitoring activity is delivered accurately, consistently and on time.
  • Conduct periodic and thematic compliance monitoring reviews across operational business areas, including outsourced activities and third-party suppliers.
  • Assess adherence to FCA regulations, internal policies, procedures and conduct standards, identifying gaps and areas of improvement.
  • Produce clear, well-evidenced monitoring reports, documenting findings, risk ratings and pragmatic recommendations.
  • Track and follow up on agreed actions, ensuring timely remediation and effective closure of issues.
  • Identify emerging conduct, compliance and regulatory risks through monitoring activity and escalate appropriately.
  • Support first-line teams by providing guidance on compliance requirements, conduct risk and regulatory expectations.
  • Maintain accurate records of monitoring activity, findings, incidents and breaches in line with governance standards.
  • Support regulatory reporting and the preparation of compliance MI for senior management and governance forums.
  • Assist with risk assessments relating to compliance and conduct risk across the business.
  • Contribute to maintaining and enhancing compliance policies, procedures and monitoring frameworks.
  • Keep up to date with FCA and regulatory developments relevant to the insurance sector.
Experience & Skills Required:
  • Proven compliance experience within the insurance industry.
  • Strong working knowledge of FCA regulations and conduct risk requirements.
  • Experience delivering compliance monitoring reviews or assurance activities.
  • Ability to interpret regulations and assess their practical application within operational environments.
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills, with high attention to detail.
  • Confident communicator, able to engage, influence and challenge stakeholders constructively.
  • Experience producing clear monitoring reports and management information.
  • Comfortable working independently and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt style to different audiences.
