An established and growing UK financial services organisation is seeking an experienced Compliance Manager – Monitoring to support its Compliance function during a period of growth and regulatory change. This is a hands-on contract opportunity for an experienced compliance professional with a strong background in Compliance Monitoring, FCA regulation and regulatory assurance activities. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering risk-based compliance reviews, providing independent challenge to the business, and helping ensure positive customer outcomes across a range of regulated activities.

The role will be based in Manchester, with an expectation of 4 days per week onsite during the initial contract period.

The Opportunity

Working within the second line Compliance function, you will take ownership of a programme of compliance monitoring activities, conducting both thematic and routine reviews across key business areas. You will provide robust assurance to senior stakeholders, identify areas for improvement, and support the ongoing development of the compliance framework. This role would suit an individual who is comfortable operating independently, engaging with senior stakeholders and delivering high-quality monitoring reviews in a fast-paced financial services environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver risk-based compliance monitoring reviews across regulated business activities.
  • Plan, scope, execute and report on thematic and routine monitoring reviews.
  • Assess compliance with FCA regulatory requirements, internal policies and customer outcome expectations.
  • Produce clear and concise monitoring reports, identifying findings, root causes and practical recommendations.
  • Track remediation actions and provide effective challenge to business stakeholders.
  • Support the ongoing development and enhancement of the Compliance Monitoring Plan.
  • Provide regulatory guidance and practical compliance advice where required.
  • Review emerging regulatory developments and assess potential business impacts.
  • Contribute to compliance reporting provided to senior management and governance committees.
  • Promote a strong culture of customer-centricity, conduct and regulatory compliance across the organisation.
  • Support continuous improvement of compliance frameworks, policies and monitoring methodologies.

Experience Required

  • Significant experience conducting Compliance Monitoring reviews within a regulated financial services environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of FCA regulations and expectations.
  • Experience producing monitoring reports and presenting findings to senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to identify regulatory risks and provide pragmatic, risk-based recommendations.
  • Strong analytical, investigative and report-writing skills.
  • Experience engaging effectively with first-line business teams and senior management.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and deliver high-quality outputs within tight timescales.

Desirable

  • Experience within banking, lending, consumer finance or broader retail financial services.
  • Knowledge of Consumer Duty and customer outcome frameworks.
  • Experience contributing to the development of Compliance Monitoring Plans.
  • Exposure to regulatory change and horizon scanning activities.
