MERITUS are recruiting for a Structural Design Engineer to join an established engineering business supporting the delivery of mechanical, structural, and engineering solutions across industrial, water treatment, energy, and manufacturing sectors in a permanent role.
About the Opportunity
An established engineering business delivering mechanical, structural, and engineering solutions across the industrial, water treatment, energy, and manufacturing sectors is looking for a Structural Design Engineer to join its growing design team based in Staffordshire. This is an opportunity to work on a varied portfolio of projects, combining office-based design work with occasional UK site visits, while developing your technical skills within a supportive and collaborative environment.
The Role
Working as part of the design team, you'll be responsible for producing high-quality structural steelwork models and drawings that support fabrication and installation activities. Key responsibilities include:
- Creating accurate 3D models using Autodesk Advance Steel from client information and internal designs.
- Carrying out 3D point cloud surveys using in-house scanning equipment (training provided), including occasional UK site visits.
- Producing 2D fabrication and general arrangement drawings from 3D models.
- Supporting fabrication and installation teams with technical design information.
- Interpreting engineering specifications to produce compliant and practical design solutions.
- Resolving design queries and contributing to continuous improvement activities.
- Producing detailed component and assembly drawings using process datasheets and reference designs.
About You
You'll ideally bring experience within structural steelwork design along with a solid understanding of mechanical and structural engineering principles. We're interested in people who have:
- An HNC (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering. Candidates with lower qualifications will also be considered, with opportunities to further develop their skills.
- Around three years' experience in steelwork design, fabrication or installation.
- Experience designing structural steelwork such as platforms, staircases and support frames.
- Experience using Autodesk Advance Steel, although training can be provided.
- Knowledge of software such as STAAD.Pro Advanced, RAM Structural System, RAM Connection or RAM Elements would be beneficial.
- The ability to interpret engineering specifications and produce accurate technical designs.
