Principal Electrical Design Engineer | Automation / Controls Consultancy | Nuclear Industry | Stafford (Hybrid 3 days per week in the office) | Up to £65,000 | SC Clearance Eligibility Required
MERITUS are working with an expanding Automation / Controls Consultancy that are looking for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to take ownership of technical leadership across multiple projects. This is an opportunity to step into a senior role where your technical expertise and leadership will make a real difference.
In this role, you will lead the design, development, and quality of hardware / electrical systems from concept through to delivery. You’ll be heavily involved in the design of low voltage electrical distribution systems, control panels, and safety-related electrical systems, ensuring they meet both project requirements and industry standards. Alongside the technical work, you’ll mentor engineers, oversee project delivery, and provide technical leadership in areas such as AutoCAD Electrical design and Inventor models.
The company are based in Stafford & operate hybrid working with 3 days per week in the office. They require candidates to be eligible for SC level security clearance.
Main Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of control panels, safety panels, and low voltage distribution systems.
- Carry out detailed reviews of AutoCAD Electrical drawings and Inventor models to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Provide day-to-day technical leadership and mentoring for hardware engineers, ensuring projects run smoothly.
- Work closely with project teams to ensure delivery on time, to scope, and within budget.
- Support senior management with technical reporting, risk identification, and input on project strategy.
Required Skills:
- Degree-qualified in a relevant engineering discipline, with at least 4 years’ experience in hardware/electrical design.
- Strong background in control panel design and use of AutoCAD Electrical.
- Proven track record of leading engineering teams and delivering successful projects.
- Knowledge of functional safety standards (IEC 61508) and familiarity with ISO quality and safety frameworks.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to guide and motivate others.
- The require candidates to be eligible for SC level security clearance.
- Salary up to £65,000 (potentially higher)
