MERITUS are recruiting for a Systems Engineer specialising in EMC and TEMPEST compliant installation design to join a leading aerospace and defence organisation supporting highly secure satellite communications and ground systems programmes. This role will require security clearance due to the nature of the work.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a technically advanced environment delivering critical infrastructure and communications capability to defence customers. The position offers exposure across the full systems engineering lifecycle, from requirements capture and architecture development through to testing, installation, acceptance, and operational support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the development of EMC and TEMPEST compliant equipment installation designs for secure communications systems.
  • Capture and analyse customer and stakeholder requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Define system architectures and installation solutions while ensuring compliance with applicable standards and constraints.
  • Produce EMC and TEMPEST test plans, procedures, and supporting compliance documentation.
  • Coordinate with specialist test facilities and external stakeholders to define verification and certification activities.
  • Conduct systems engineering analysis, modelling, and trade studies to support design decisions.
  • Define and manage interface requirements across complex system architectures.
  • Support integration, verification, validation, and acceptance activities.
  • Assess the impact of design changes throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Contribute to operational deployment, transition into service, and ongoing system support activities.
  • Ensure all work is conducted in accordance with security, export control, and regulatory requirements.

  • Practical experience designing or installing electrical and electronic equipment within complex engineering environments.
  • Strong understanding of electrical interference mechanisms and mitigation techniques.
  • Experience with rack-mounted equipment installations and compliant cabling practices.
  • Knowledge of EMC principles and system-level compliance requirements.
  • Experience generating installation verification or test plans.
  • Understanding of systems engineering processes across the full lifecycle.
  • Experience supporting integration, verification, validation, and operational acceptance activities.
  • Ability to work within highly regulated and security-conscious environments.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Knowledge of TEMPEST standards, testing methodologies, and compliance requirements.

  • Degree qualified in an engineering discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional registration.
