CNC Operator – Milling – £17.92 PER HOUR – Kirkby Moor Side, North Yorkshire – Precision Manufacturing
MERITUS are recruiting for a CNC Operator to join a Precision Manufacturing client in their milling team in a permanent role.
Working Pattern & Shift Structure
During the initial training period (approximately 6-9 months), candidates will work: Monday to Thursday / Friday equivalent pattern, 7:00am - 5:30pm. Following successful completion of training an increase in salary will be made and employees can move onto one of the following shift patterns:
- Option 1 – 4 On / 4 Off Day Shift – 11‑hour shifts, £35 per day shift uplift
- Option 2 – 4 On / 4 Off Night Shift – 11‑hour shifts, £50 per shift uplift
The Opportunity
An established precision engineering manufacturer is seeking a skilled CNC Miller / CNC Machinist to join its growing machining team. This position focuses primarily on CNC milling operations within a fast‑paced, high‑quality manufacturing environment producing precision components. The successful candidate will play a key role in maximising machine utilisation, maintaining quality standards, and supporting efficient production output across a range of CNC machining activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Setting and operating high‑speed CNC milling machines to carry out precision machining operations including milling, drilling, tapping, and grinding
- Operating and supervising additional machine shop equipment where required
- Ensuring all tooling, fixtures and CNC programs are prepared and available prior to production
- Maintaining accurate production records including component quantities and scrap reporting
- Taking ownership of component quality and ensuring work is completed to specification
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications
- Carrying out basic program edits and tool offset adjustments
- Monitoring, replacing and maintaining tooling and cutters
- Preparing and loading raw materials and components onto machines
- Checking and maintaining coolant and lubricant levels
- Working with 3‑axis and 4‑axis CNC machining centres and Renishaw probing systems
- Following all company health & safety procedures and manufacturing protocols
- Supporting continuous improvement and maintaining high production standards throughout
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience operating CNC milling machinery within a precision engineering or manufacturing environment
- Experience with high‑speed CNC machining centres
- Understanding of 3‑axis and 4‑axis machining processes
- Experience using Renishaw probing systems
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Good organisational and communication skills
- A proactive and reliable approach with the ability to work to production deadlines
