MERITUS are recruiting for a Splunk Lead Engineer to join a Consulting Organisation working into a Central Government Client supporting enterprise-wide observability and monitoring capabilities. This is a 12-month contract role based in London, paying £600 per day (Inside IR35), with 2 days per week required on-site.
As a Splunk Lead Engineer, you will act as the technical authority for monitoring and observability, driving standards, automation, and scalable solutions across a complex enterprise environment. You will work closely with technical teams and stakeholders to improve service performance, resilience, and operational insight. This role is ideal for an experienced Splunk specialist with strong expertise in Splunk Enterprise, Splunk ITSI, automation, and large-scale monitoring environments.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead the design and implementation of monitoring and observability standards and solutions.
- Act as technical authority for Splunk Enterprise and Splunk ITSI platforms.
- Develop automation using Terraform, GitHub, REST APIs, and Infrastructure as Code principles.
- Collaborate with technical teams to define requirements and deliver scalable monitoring solutions.
- Support complex incident investigations and drive continuous service improvement.
- Integrate Splunk with monitoring, automation, and ITSM tools.
- Analyse and correlate data across multiple systems to deliver operational insights.
- Maintain documentation, standards, and monitoring patterns.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring across the observability team.
- Proven experience in a Splunk Engineering, Architecture, or Lead Observability role.
- Splunk certification with strong hands-on experience in Splunk Enterprise and Splunk ITSI.
- Experience automating Splunk using Terraform, GitHub, and REST APIs.
- Strong understanding of observability, monitoring, and operational intelligence.
- Experience integrating monitoring tools and enterprise data sources.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working in Agile environments.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Tools such as Control-M, xMatters, Jira, Confluence, OpenShift.
- Cloud, automation, and security monitoring experience.
- Experience in regulated environments such as Government, Financial Services, or Defence.
