MERITUS are working with a leading engineering and systems integration organisation based in Glasgow. They are looking for a Senior Control Systems Software Engineer to take a key role in delivering complex, high-impact projects.
As a Senior Control Systems Software Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development and implementation of PLC-based control systems within energy and utilities environments. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team, supporting the delivery of reliable and high-performance control systems for critical energy assets. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of technical deliverables, contribute to system design, and support commissioning activities across a variety of energy projects.
Main Responsibilities:- Design, develop and test control system software for energy sector applications using Siemens PLC platforms
- Contribute to project delivery across all phases, from requirements definition through to commissioning
- Produce high-quality technical documentation including functional design specifications and test documentation
- Collaborate with internal teams and energy sector clients to ensure successful technical delivery
- Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and on-site commissioning
- Strong experience in the design & programming of Siemens PLCs (e.g. TIA Portal, S7, PCS7)
- Experience delivering PLC/SCADA/DCS systems within the energy sector (e.g. generation, transmission, renewables)
- Good understanding of control systems engineering across the full project lifecycle
- Knowledge of IEC 61131 programming languages (e.g. Ladder Logic, Function Block, Structured Text)
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work both independently and within a team
