Job Description

MERITUS Talent are working with one of Europe's leading aerospace and defence manufacturers for the recruitment of a Cable/Harness Design Engineer to join their Stevenage office on an initial 6 month contract, working hybrid, paying £60 per hour via umbrella. The role requires someone to start on a BPSS clearance with a view of undergoing an SC once in position. Zuken E3 experience is essential.Job Title: Interconnects Cable / Harness Design EngineerRole Overview:

You're the person who designs the cables that connect all the electronic bits inside missiles, aircraft systems, or other defence tech. Think of it like designing the electrical wiring in a car – but much more complex and for military use.

You'll be part of a team that's basically the company's go-to group for anything to do with how electronics get connected together. Your job is to make sure the right wires go to the right places, safely and efficiently, while withstanding things like heat, vibration, and interference.

What you'll be doing:

  • Looking at engineering plans and figuring out what cables are needed.

  • Designing those cables and their layouts using a bit of specialist software called Zuken E3.

  • Helping other engineers use that software properly and fixing any issues that come up.

  • Solving technical problems related to cables – either on your own or with the team.

  • Supporting other departments if the cables don't work quite right during testing or manufacturing.

Skills you'll need:

  • You should already know how to use Zuken E3 and ideally have 2-5 years of experience with it.

  • You understand how electrical systems work – things like how much current a cable can handle, what kind of signals it carries, how to prevent electrical noise, etc.

  • You know how to design cables that meet tough requirements (e.g. they still work after being shaken or exposed to extreme temperatures).

  • You're familiar with how engineering changes are tracked using tools like Windchill.

  • You can clearly explain technical stuff to other people.

  • Bonus if you've worked with another bit of software called PTC CREO Cabling.

In short:

It's a hands-on, technical design job where you're responsible for the physical wires and cables inside advanced defence tech. You're not inventing electronics – you're making sure they're connected properly and reliably, in a way that works under pressure.
