Role Purpose

This opportunity is for a motivated Special Counsel to join our high-performing General Insurance team in our Sydney office. Ideally, you will bring a minimum 7 years’ post qualification experience and a strong interest in insurance litigation. This is a unique role where you will have the opportunity to work across a wide variety of insurance law and liability matters, with a focus on matters in the professional indemnity, public and product liability, building and construction and medical negligence space. This exciting role will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to manage your own matters, allowing you to make a significant contribution to their outcome. You will be supported by a highly experienced Principal who is committed to mentoring and developing you, while being part of a collegiate and collaborative team. This is the perfect environment to further develop your advocacy skills, strategic-advice work, and practice management skills.

About you

To be considered for this opportunity, you will need:

  • Minimum 7 years’ post admission experience gained working within an insurance litigation practice
  • Ability to work fast and meticulously with high attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a strong sense of initiative and autonomy
  • A proactive client service orientated attitude with an excellent work ethic

Skills & Abilities

Demonstrates an understanding of the legal issues relevant to the practice of insurance law and a demonstrated ability to understand and respond to the commercial objectives of clients. This role requires an eye for technical detail but also the ability to provide legal advice in a commercial context. The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate clearly with a high level of attention to detail. Proven ability to build relationships and communicate effectively at all levels of seniority. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Ability to deal confidently with clients directly and foster client relationships. Time management skills and proven ability to prioritise multiple active matters at any one time. Capacity to problem solve and think laterally.
