We are looking for an Oncology pharmacist to join an established Hospital Oncology team based in Reading. Salary up to £60,000 per annum. Monday to Friday 08:00 – 16:00. 35 days annual leave (including bank holidays).

As an Oncology pharmacist, you will take full responsibility for leading and delivering a specialist oncology pharmacy service in a hospital setting. Acting as the expert point of contact, you will provide high-level clinical advice to consultants, clinicians, and patients, ensuring the safe, appropriate, and cost-effective use of oncology medications. You will play a central role in patient care, contributing to multidisciplinary team discussions and supporting the hospital in maintaining the highest standards of pharmaceutical governance and safety.
Day to day, the Oncology pharmacist will manage the planning, monitoring, and evaluation of chemotherapy treatments, oversee stock control and information systems, and lead quality assurance processes related to medicine use. You’ll assess complex patient needs, support clinical decision-making, and contribute to service improvements through data collection and research. With a strong focus on patient safety and operational excellence, you’ll also guide junior staff and collaborate with key departments to promote a responsive and efficient oncology pharmacy service.
You must be a GPhC-registered pharmacist with no restrictions on your registration coupled with prior experience in hospital pharmacy settings and a strong background in oncology services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the oncology pharmacy service, ensuring the safe, effective, and compliant use of chemotherapy and other oncology medications across the hospital.
- Provide expert clinical advice to consultants, clinicians, and patients on oncology treatments, supporting safe prescribing and optimal patient outcomes.
- Assess and monitor complex patient medication needs, planning and delivering tailored pharmaceutical care in line with current best practice and clinical guidelines.
- Oversee stock control and documentation, ensuring accurate management of oncology medications, including procurement, storage, dispensing, and disposal.
- Promote a multidisciplinary, patient-centred approach by collaborating with medical and nursing teams to deliver high-quality, integrated care.
Skills & Experience:
- GPhC Registration: Fully registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council, with no restrictions on practice.
- Specialist Oncology Knowledge: Extensive experience in the safe handling, preparation, and dispensing of oncology medications, including chemotherapy protocols.
- Hospital Pharmacy Experience: Proven track record of working within a hospital pharmacy environment, ideally in a senior or specialist capacity.
- Clinical Reasoning: Ability to apply advanced clinical reasoning to assess complex and changing patient needs and recommend appropriate pharmaceutical care plans.
- Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy (or equivalent): Postgraduate training and qualification in clinical pharmacy, ideally with a focus on oncology or advanced therapeutics.
