Meridian Business Support are recruiting on behalf of our client for a Freight Forwarder to join a growing and ambitious logistics business. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced freight/ logistics professional to play a key role in the day-to-day running of international logistics operations whilst contributing to the continued growth of the business.
The successful Freight Forwarder will support and oversee forwarding activities on behalf of the business and its parent company, managing shipments from quotation through to invoicing and ensuring customers receive a first-class service throughout the process.
Responsibilities
- Managing freight movements from initial customer enquiry through to final invoicing.
- Handling UK and international import and export customs formalities, including customs entries and related documentation.
- Preparing competitive quotations and maintaining excellent customer communication throughout the shipment lifecycle.
- Negotiating rates with shipping lines, hauliers and logistics providers to achieve the best commercial outcomes.
- Coordinating shipments across key trade lanes including Iberia, Italy, Benelux and China.
- Identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency, service delivery and customer satisfaction.
- Resolving operational issues quickly and effectively whilst maintaining service excellence.
Qualifications
- Previous experience within freight forwarding, shipping, logistics or import/export operations.
- Strong knowledge of import and export customs procedures and customs entries.
- Understanding of shipping lines operating within Iberian, Italian, Benelux and Chinese markets.
- Knowledge of EU road freight operations.
- Strong negotiation skills with experience dealing with carriers, shipping lines and transport providers.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
- Experience with Destin8 would be advantageous but is not essential.
- A proactive approach with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

This role may suit candidates currently working as a Freight Forwarder, Import Export Coordinator, Customs Coordinator, Shipping Coordinator, Freight Operations Specialist or Logistics Coordinator.
