This is an opportunity to take ownership of Health, Safety and Environmental performance across a busy 450-person manufacturing and warehousing site. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager and managing a team of three, you will be a key member of the leadership team with responsibility for driving standards, improving behavioural safety and embedding a positive safety culture across the operation.

If you are a visible, hands-on HSE professional who enjoys building relationships on the shop floor and influencing people at every level, this role offers the chance to make a genuine impact.

Why Apply?

  • £55,000 - £60,000 salary
  • Annual bonus of up to 10%
  • Generous pension contributions
  • Life assurance from day one
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • Monday to Friday working pattern
  • Leadership role reporting directly to the Plant Manager
  • Full responsibility for a major FMCG manufacturing and warehouse operation
  • Manage an established HSE team of three

As HSE Manager, you will lead all site-based HSE activity across a complex manufacturing and warehousing environment, ensuring compliance while creating a culture where safety is part of everyday behaviour.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading health, safety and environmental activities across production and warehouse operations
  • Managing and developing a team of 2 HSE Coordinators and 1 HSE Administrator
  • Driving behavioural safety improvements and improving engagement across the workforce
  • Delivering toolbox talks, training programmes and safety communications
  • Addressing a backlog of HSE training and ensuring employees understand revised procedures
  • Ensuring SOPs, risk assessments and safe systems of work are consistently followed
  • Investigating incidents, near misses and accidents, implementing corrective actions
  • Managing internal audits and compliance activities against ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards
  • Coordinating contractor management and external risk assessments
  • Working closely with operational leaders and union representatives to improve standards and employee engagement

The focus of this role is not large-scale capital projects. Success will come from building visibility on the shop floor, improving behaviours, reinforcing standards and creating lasting cultural change.

To be successful in this HSE Manager role, you will have:

  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Level 6 HSE qualification
  • Significant Health & Safety leadership experience within FMCG manufacturing
  • Experience within plastics, packaging or a similar high-volume manufacturing environment
  • Previous experience working within a unionised operation
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems
  • Experience supporting both manufacturing and warehousing functions
  • Previous people management experience
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • The ability to influence, challenge and inspire teams at all levels

Applications are welcomed from professionals currently working as a Health & Safety Manager, EHS Manager, SHE Manager, Manufacturing HSE Lead or Site Safety Manager.
