School Caretaker – Enhanced DBS on Update Service Location: Middleton Pay: £13.70–£13.92 per hour Hours: 10:00am–6:00pm during term time / 8:00am–4:00pm during school holidays Contract: Temporary / Ongoing Start Date: Immediate Keyholder: Yes Enhanced DBS on the Update Service – ESSENTIAL Are you an experienced School Caretaker, Caretaker, Maintenance Operative or Facilities Assistant looking for an immediate opportunity? We are currently recruiting for a School Caretaker to join a busy school site. This is a varied, hands-on role where you will play an important part in keeping the school safe, secure, clean and well maintained. IMPORTANT: You must hold a valid Enhanced DBS which is registered on the DBS Update Service. This is an essential requirement for the role. Candidates without an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service will not be considered. About the School Caretaker Role Working alongside the Site Manager and Business Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of the school premises. Your duties will include: * General maintenance and minor repairs around the school site. * Basic plumbing, including unblocking toilets and dealing with minor drainage issues. * Drain clearing and general premises maintenance. * Moving furniture, equipment and deliveries safely around the school. * Putting up noticeboards, fixtures and fittings. * Litter picking and emptying bins around the school. * Completing daily and weekly health and safety checks. * Reporting hazards, damage, defects and maintenance issues. * Helping prepare the school premises for events and activities. * Opening and securing the school site when required. * Following procedures relating to keys, alarms and site security. * Responding to requests from the Site Manager and Business Manager. * Supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the school premises. * Carrying out any other reasonable caretaking and maintenance duties required. What We're Looking For: The successful School Caretaker will be practical, reliable and happy to get involved in a wide range of maintenance and premises duties. You will need: * A valid Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service – ESSENTIAL. * Previous experience in a Caretaker, School Caretaker, Maintenance, Facilities, Premises or similar role. * A practical, hands-on approach. * The ability to carry out basic maintenance and minor repairs. * Good organisational skills and attention to detail. * The ability to work independently and use your own initiative. * Good communication skills. * A reliable and responsible approach to work. * The ability to undertake physical duties, including lifting and moving furniture and equipment. * An understanding of health and safety requirements. * A professional approach and the ability to maintain confidentiality when working in a school environment. Desirable Experience The following would be advantageous: *Previous experience working as a School Caretaker. *Experience working in a school, college, nursery or other public building. *Basic plumbing or drainage experience. *Carpentry or general maintenance experience. *Facilities or premises management experience. *Relevant maintenance, facilities or health and safety qualifications.
