Meridian Business Support is currently recruiting for a Communication Support Workerto work in a Cambridge based college.

About the role:
Are you a skilled and dedicated individual with a background of working with the Deaf community? Do you possess solid knowledge and experience, along with proficiency in British Sign Language (BSL)? If so, you\’re invited to apply for the position of Communication Support Worker?

The primary duties, tasks and responsibilities of this job role are to:

To support d/Deaf learners in a range of educational and training settings, facilitating communication between learner, staff and peers, using appropriate modes of communication and other strategies and ensuring optimal access.
To work under the supervision and guidance of the Head of Learning Support to provide support for D/deaf and HI students across the college by providing effective communication and working to ensure high outcomes for students with a hearing impairment.
To work in class with deaf learners to facilitate communication and access using a range of communication modes and strategies as appropriate (e.g., note-taking, BSL/SSE, Lip speaking and language modification).
To liaise closely with teaching staff regarding the delivery of the course, advising as appropriate on the modification and differentiation of the learning environment, materials, and delivery styles.
To advise teaching and other staff on appropriate communication strategies when working with d/Deaf learners.
To provide support for activities outside the classroom, for instance, residential trips, college trips, and visits.
To adapt and modify language where appropriate (including curriculum and learning materials).
To voice over for d/Deaf learners where appropriate.

To facilitate the use of technical aids in the learning environment, e.g., the use of minicom, radio aids, etc.
Qualifications and Education:
Qualified CSWs should be a member of professional organisations, i.e. BATOD

Special conditions or working arrangements applicable to this role are;
This post is subject to a successful probationary period of 6 months and a satisfactory Enhanced DBS clearance.
