We are currently recruiting for a Health & Safety Officer to join a progressive manufacturing company with a global presence, yet a family friendly feel to their UK Head Office in Milton Keynes where you would be based. This is an office based, permanent role working Monday to Friday 8.30am-5.30pm offering a salary of £35-40k per annum plus excellent benefits.

As Health & Safety Officer you will be reporting into the Factory Manager with site accountability for Health & Safety, coordinating activities required to meet company standards and legal requirements, acting as an ambassador ensuring that all employees (approx 80) are compliant as well as the business itself. Your main duties will include the following:

  • Advising employees on how to minimise or ultimately avoid risks and hazards in the workplace.
  • To operate at all times with safe working practices according to Health and Safety regulations, COSHH, Control of Infection, waste disposal, etc in accordance with legislative requirements and policies and procedures.
  • First aid duties.
  • Working with and training all employees to manage, monitor and improve the health and safety standards in the workplace.
  • Being responsible for all safety inspections in the workplace (for example, monitoring noise levels in a warehouse).
  • Assisting with the creation and management of health and safety monitoring systems and policies in the workplace.
  • Managing emergency procedures (such as fire alarm drills) and organising emergency teams such as fire marshals and first aiders.
  • Offering general health and safety advice to all employees.
  • Facilitating statutory inspections for LOLER and Compressed Air Systems.
  • Recording weekly health and safety tours and logging any accidents and incidents as appropriate.
  • Acting as the primary contact for maintenance requests and defects, liaising with all parties throughout the process.
  • Arranging maintenance and monitoring progress of works, liaising with contractors whilst employees while work is being completed.
  • Obtaining quotations for facilities work.

  • Previous experience in a Health & Safety role in food/FMCG or manufacturing environment.
  • Proven Health and Safety experience.
  • Excellent analytical skills with good working knowledge of Excel.
  • Energy, enthusiasm and commitment are essential characteristics in this fast-moving environment.
  • Knowledge of The Health & Safety at Work etc Act 1974 plus applicable regulations.
  • IOSH and NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent qualification.
