Job Summary

The role involves the design and development of innovative molecular reagents and analytical methods for the in vitro diagnostics industry, while ensuring compliance with applicable ISO standards through accurate and comprehensive documentation. This will also include transfer of projects and processes to internal stakeholders (e.g. Production Department, QC Department, etc.). In addition, the role may provide technical support in response to customer enquiries and troubleshooting activities.

Key Duties

  • Assist the Manager or Team leader on a variety of scientific projects
  • Research, develop, and verify analytical procedures for a wide range of molecular biology reagents, including PCR mastermixes and next-generation sequencing kits
  • Establish and disseminate technical knowledge and good laboratory practices in the group; independently follow SOP (protocols, MSOP and ASOP)
  • Work with ISO13485 standards and understand their requirements
  • Independent troubleshooting of experiments
  • Write literature to support products
  • Keep accurate laboratory records
  • Assist with the technical support activities within and beyond the R&D group

Qualifications

PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, or a related scientific discipline, or equivalent experience. Industry or academic research experience in molecular biology or molecular diagnostics.

Required Experience

  • Strong hands-on experience with PCR and qPCR assay development, optimisation, and data analysis
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques, including nucleic acid extraction, amplification, and characterisation
  • Strong experimental troubleshooting and scientific problem-solving skills
  • Experience working within regulated laboratory or quality-controlled environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly present scientific findings
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience developing and optimising reagent formulations for molecular biology or molecular diagnostic applications
  • Experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS) library preparation workflows and associated QC methods
  • Knowledge of enzyme biochemistry, including DNA and RNA polymerases and their recombinant expression and purification
  • Familiarity with isothermal amplification technologies such as LAMP
  • Experience supporting technical investigations or customer-facing scientific support activities
