About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Controls Engineer to join a growing engineering team, developing advanced control and visualisation software for innovative engineering products.

Reporting to the Controls Engineering Manager, you'll take ownership of software design and specification, provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and help drive continuous improvement across the controls engineering function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop PLC and HMI software for new and existing products.
  • Produce and review software specifications and technical documentation.
  • Carry out software testing, validation, and simulation activities.
  • Support project planning and ensure engineering activities are delivered on time.
  • Drive continuous improvement of controls engineering processes and standards.
  • Investigate software quality issues and provide expert technical support.
  • Produce software release documentation, manuals, and build notes.
  • Mentor junior engineers and deliver technical training across the team.

About You

We're looking for an experienced Controls Engineer with a strong background in industrial automation and software development.

You'll ideally have

  • HND, Degree, or equivalent qualification in Controls Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least five years' experience in controls and software engineering.
  • Strong PLC programming experience, including Ladder Logic, Structured Text, Function Blocks, and Data Structures.
  • HMI programming experience using VB. NET or similar high-level languages.
  • Experience with Modbus communications, software configuration management, and technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of P&ID drawings, electrical schematics, PID control loops, HAZOP, and FMEA.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to mentor colleagues and work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Desirable experience includes PLC hardware configuration, simulation tools, HTML5, Java Script, ASP, functional safety systems, and SEMI industry standards.

Location

This is an on-site role based in Clevedon, North Somerset, working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Occasional travel to customer sites and other engineering locations may be required.
