The Role
You will support the cleansing and upkeep of Edinburgh's streets and public areas whilst also operating a cage vehicle to assist with waste collection and disposal. This is a dual-role position combining driving responsibilities with hands-on street cleansing duties.
Duties include (but are not limited to):
- Driving a cage vehicle safely and responsibly across designated routes
- Carrying out daily vehicle checks and reporting defects in line with health & safety procedures
- Transporting collected waste to disposal sites
- Cleaning and servicing city streets and public spaces
- Sweeping, brushing, and removing leaves and debris
- Removing weeds from pavements and public areas using manual tools
- Emptying public litter and waste bins
- Safe collection, handling, and disposal of waste materials
- Handling physically demanding tasks including lifting, bending, and repetitive movements
- Walking long distances throughout shifts
- Occasional interaction with members of the public
- Dealing with unpleasant waste, including bodily fluids where required
Successful Candidates Will:
- Hold a valid UK driving licence (essential)
- Receive full induction, training, and PPE
- Be confident driving a cage vehicle in urban environments
- Be honest, reliable, and punctual
- Have a strong work ethic and willingness to carry out manual work
- Be able to work effectively as part of a team
- Be health and safety conscious
