An established food manufacturing business is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Hygiene Manager to take ownership of hygiene and sanitation standards across a complex manufacturing site. This is a key operational role leading a team of more than 15 people, but it is not a purely desk based management position. We are looking for somebody with strong, recent and practical food manufacturing sanitation experience who is comfortable being highly visible on the factory floor, challenging standards, inspecting processes and equipment, resolving issues and driving continuous improvement.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for developing, implementing and maintaining robust sanitation programmes across production, packaging, storage and associated areas. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading, developing and managing a sanitation/hygiene team of 15+ employees
  • Developing and maintaining sanitation programmes, cleaning schedules and SSOPs
  • Ensuring consistently high standards of GMP, HACCP and food safety compliance
  • Regularly inspecting production areas, equipment and sanitation practices
  • Carrying out and reviewing sanitation verification, including ATP testing and visual inspections
  • Identifying hygiene failures, completing root cause investigations and ensuring effective corrective actions
  • Supporting internal and external audits and maintaining audit readiness
  • Managing cleaning chemicals, consumables and sanitation equipment
  • Ensuring safe chemical handling, PPE compliance and appropriate storage and usage
  • Working closely with Production, Engineering/Maintenance and Quality teams
  • Identifying opportunities to improve cleaning effectiveness, reduce downtime and improve operational efficiency
  • Developing the capability, accountability and performance of the sanitation team

About you: For this appointment, recent hands on hygiene or sanitation experience within a food manufacturing environment is essential. We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:

  • Strong current knowledge of industrial food-manufacturing sanitation and cleaning processes
  • Experience personally driving hygiene standards on the factory floor rather than managing solely through others
  • Experience of GMP, HACCP, SSOPs and food-safety requirements
  • Practical knowledge of sanitation verification methods such as ATP testing
  • Experience supporting food-safety and hygiene audits
  • Experience leading and developing a sizeable operational hygiene/sanitation team
  • Strong problem-solving and continuous-improvement capability
  • The confidence to challenge standards and work effectively across Production, Quality and Engineering teams

This is a senior and influential site role offering the opportunity to take real ownership of sanitation performance within a major food manufacturing environment. Salary: £50,000 / £60,000, depending on experience. Further information regarding the organisation and site will be discussed with suitable candidates following initial screening. Please click ‘Apply’ and follow the instructions, and we’ll be in touch.
