Our client, a leading investment management firm, is seeking a highly experienced Portfolio Implementation Specialist to play a key role in the implementation and transition of complex multi-asset portfolios. Working at the intersection of investment management, portfolio operations, and execution, this position will oversee the successful delivery of portfolio changes across fund-of-funds, manager of managers, SMA, and direct investment structures.
The successful candidate will combine strong technical implementation expertise with a strategic mindset, ensuring portfolio transitions are executed efficiently, risk is effectively managed and governance standards are maintained. This is a unique opportunity to join an exceptional investment team and contribute to the evolution of a sophisticated multi-asset investment platform.
- A minimum of 8-12 years in institutional investment implementation, fund management operations, or execution at a firm managing significant AUM, ideally within UK asset management or wealth management, with direct exposure to fund-of-funds, manager-of-managers, or multi-vehicle structures.
- Deep familiarity with fund dealing mechanics in a layered structure β subscription, redemption, and in-specie transfer management across both the fund-of-funds level and underlying single-manager funds and SMAs, including dealing deadline logistics, notice period tiering, NAV pricing windows, swing pricing, and dilution levy awareness.
- Experience managing portfolio changes and transitions within fund-of-funds or manager-of-managers vehicles β including the sequencing of manager transitions, tracking error management during transition periods, and the coordination of dealing across multiple underlying vehicles simultaneously.
- Demonstrable experience with model portfolio implementation and rebalancing governance.
- Sufficient breadth across a multi-asset universe to engage credibly with equities, fixed income, FX, listed options, structured products, and private markets, and to manage implementation across portfolios that combine direct securities with fund and SMA holdings.
- Strong understanding of MiFID II best execution obligations, EMIR trade reporting requirements, and FCA expectations of large UK wealth and asset managers in relation to order handling, fund dealing governance, and counterparty management.
- Experience evaluating, selecting, or working within order management, portfolio management, or rebalancing systems β with particular attention to fund workflow, model propagation, and multi-vehicle implementation capability.
- Prior experience in formal transition management - particularly multi-vehicle transitions spanning fund, SMA, and single-line instruments, with structured risk budget management and post-transition cost attribution.
- Experience with FX overlay management, benchmarking, or renegotiation in a multi-currency, multi-vehicle portfolio context.
- Direct experience negotiating dealing terms, service levels, or reporting arrangements with underlying managers, fund administrators, transfer agents, or platform providers at institutional scale.
- Experience with direct securities execution - algorithmic trading, implementation shortfall methodology, and TCA - as the bespoke sleeve grows this will become an increasingly important dimension of the role.
- Exposure to private markets implementation - capital call management, redemption notice logistics, and the sequencing of liquid portfolio changes around illiquid commitments.
- CFA, CAIA, FRM, IMC, or equivalent professional qualification.
- Strong candidates may come from one of the following backgrounds:
- Experience gained within an implementation, portfolio operations, or transition management function at large UK fund-of-funds managers, multi-manager platforms, or manager-of-managers businesses.
- Dedicated transition management desks at custody banks, specialist transition managers, or multi-asset investment managers - particularly those with experience of fund-of-funds and multi-vehicle transitions.
- Senior fund operations or dealing roles at large asset managers with direct involvement in manager selection implementation, SMA oversight, and fund range governance.
- Investment implementation or execution roles at large UK wealth managers operating significant MPS and DFM businesses.
- OMS, portfolio management system, or rebalancing platform firms with deep buy-side experience in fund-of-funds, MPS, and multi-vehicle implementation contexts.
