The Program / Department / Team: Internal Communications
The Position: The Global Internal Communications Senior Officer is responsible for delivering and coordinating Mercy Corps’ global internal communications, ensuring timely, accurate, and inclusive information flow across the organisation. Working closely with the Director of Internal Communications, this role executes internal communications for strategic initiatives, organisational changes, and leadership updates. The role exercises sound judgement in handling sensitive and confidential information, while escalating high-risk or executive-level decisions as appropriate. This position is highly operational and hands-on, combining content development, platform management, and internal consultancy.
Essential Responsibilities
- Internal Communications Delivery: Draft, edit, and coordinate internal communications for global initiatives, organisational updates, and change processes, ensuring clarity, consistency, and accessibility. Implement internal communications for major organisational priorities, working with partners across SRU, People, Security, Climate, Finance, and other functions. Support crisis and emergency communications by drafting materials, coordinating inputs, and supporting delivery under the guidance of Director of Internal Communications, and others (as appropriate).
- Platforms, Events, and Operations: Coordinate the delivery of global internal events, including town halls and staff meetings, with a particular focus on technical execution, translation, and coordination of speakers. Manage internal communications platforms and channels (e.g. Viva Engage, Hub pages, The Globe, email distributions), ensuring best practice and consistency. Oversee operational aspects of translation and live interpretation for internal communications and events, ensuring language accessibility for global teams. Act as a liaison with IT and digital colleagues to support internal communications tools and technical needs.
- Content Management and Editorial Support: Edit and quality-check internal communications drafted by others, ensuring alignment with organisational tone and standards. Draft routine organisational content, including global observations, In Memoriam notices, and internal announcements. Maintain internal communications repositories, templates, and guidance resources, including ownership of the Internal Comms and GSMT SharePoint sites.
- Advisory and Enablement Support: Provide practical guidance to regional, country, and global teams on internal communications channels, timing, and formats. Help gather and synthesise feedback from internal stakeholders to improve communications relevance and effectiveness.
Accountability to Participants and Stakeholders: Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our program participants, community partners, other stakeholders, and to international standards guiding international relief and development work. We are committed to actively engaging communities as equal partners in the design, monitoring and evaluation of our field projects.

Works closely with: Internal Communications colleagues; External Communications team; Brand and Marketing; People Team; Regional and Country teams; IT / digital partners
Minimum Qualifications & Transferable Skills: 5+ years’ experience in internal or organisational communications, ideally in a global organisation. Excellent writing, editing, and coordination skills. Experience supporting sensitive or confidential communications. Familiarity with digital communication platforms and multilingual communications. Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.

Living Conditions / Environmental Conditions: The position may be based at any Mercy Corps location contingent on relevant local right to work and with preference for UK, Colombia, and Kenya based on time zone coverage and operational ease.
