We are seeking an Environmental Products Operations Analyst to join our London Operations team and help manage the operational aspects of Mercuria’s environmental products portfolio. The candidate will be supported by the Environmental Operations Manager and will play a critical role in managing the downstream processes of the European environmental products trading business and the global primary carbon portfolio consisting of long-term complex offtake agreements from mostly nature conservation projects around the world.
This position is ideal for someone who likes organizing and technical problem solving and has a passion for sustainability and environmental products. The successful candidate will support ongoing portfolio management processes and help grow downstream connectivity by facilitating new projects, counterparties, and forecasting systems. The role requires close collaboration with the environmental products desk, middle office and other operations teams, including trade support and settlements.
Key Responsibilities- Track upcoming deliveries and settlement events and notify the relevant operations teams.
- Reconcile carbon inventory against the registries (EU ETS, UK ETS, Verra, CAR etc).
- Ensure correct forward position forecasts are captured in the risk system.
- Keep track of portfolio spending.
- Co-ordinate and help with complex deal booking of tailored contracts in the risk system (Endur).
- Help facilitate onboarding for new projects and counterparties, ensuring seamless integration into existing workflows.
- Keep abreast of portfolio events to be able to effectively communicate them to internal stakeholders.
- Run and monitor daily carbon portfolio valuation.
- Generate, commentate and share weekly portfolio reports on volumes and value across origination, forward positions, and inventory.
- Have a good grasp of deal lifecycle and the operational processes involved.
- Have an understanding of how a deal is valued and risks associated with forward deals.
- Have a basic understanding of and/or be keen to learn in depth about carbon offsets and the carbon credit markets.
- Have strong technical aptitude: strong excel skills needed (VBA, SQL an advantage).
- Be a team-oriented individual who can collaborate across departments and different seniority levels but also work independently on critical tasks.
- Strive to and be pro-active about improving processes and tools to gain efficiencies and reduce risks.
