Mercuria is a major player in the Physical and Financial Global Commodity markets, with major trading centres in London, Geneva, Houston, Singapore, Shanghai and Beijing. We actively trade in all major commodity asset classes, from Crude and Refined oil products, to power & gas, coal and emissions, through to freight, metals, and agricultural products.

The Compliance department is expanding its surveillance program to ensure robust monitoring of trading activities and electronic communications. As part of this initiative, we are seeking a Compliance Intern to assist in the development and implementation of the program, including leveraging AI technologies for enhanced monitoring capabilities.

The intern will primarily interact with the Compliance department, with occasional collaboration with the Front Office and Risk departments as required. This is a full-time summer internship available for immediate start.

Key responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of the surveillance program.
  • Monitor trading activity and electronic communications.
  • Support the implementation of AI-driven electronic communications monitoring tools.
  • Enhance surveillance modeling and refine alert parameters on the NASDAQ Smarts surveillance system.
  • Assist with the development of physical trading activity monitoring processes.
Skills required:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • General knowledge of the energy trading industry and associated markets.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify and address potential compliance issues.
