Business Manager, Investments

Full-Time On-site
Mercuria

Established in 2004, Mercuria is one of the leading integrated energy and commodity trading companies in the world. We bring energy markets together to support the needs of today by trading, structuring finance, and investing into strategic assets, while generating more than $110 billion in turnover.

Our operations span over 50 countries on 5 continents, including all the major energy hubs. We trade physical oil, energy products, environmental products and other commodities from Geneva, London, Singapore, Shanghai, Beijing, Dubai, Houston, Calgary and Greenwich (CT).

Alongside its trading franchise, Mercuria deploys its own balance sheet as a principal investor across the commodity value chain - upstream and midstream energy, power generation and infrastructure, metals and minerals, logistics and storage, and the energy transition. The Investment Team sits at the centre of that activity, working hand in hand with the trading desks and structured finance to originate, underwrite and manage proprietary investments.

The role

We are looking for a highly organised, versatile Associate to join and help run the investment team. You will work closely with the Chief of Staff and the Chief Investment Officer and with the team's investment professionals, keeping the team organised and producing high-quality presentations and materials.

A large part of the role is making sure the Chief of Staff and Chief Investment Officer can operate at their best: that they go into every meeting properly prepared, have the right information to hand at short notice, and that decisions and commitments are followed through. You will often be the person who pulls together the materials, chases the inputs and closes the loop afterwards.

This is a hands-on, varied role suited to someone who enjoys making things run well and takes pride in getting the details right. It offers broad exposure to senior people and to how a global commodities business works, with clear scope to grow.

In short, you keep the team’s work moving - coordinating people and inputs, turning them into succinct, finished materials for leadership to review, and then driving the next steps through to completion.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare briefing packs for the CIO and Chief of Staff ahead of investment committees, executive and board meetings, trading desk reviews and external meetings. Packs cover background, latest numbers, open issues and talking points.
  • Build presentations, recurring reporting packs (such as portfolio reviews and pipeline updates), deal one-pagers and background notes. Pull together inputs from deal teams, Finance and Risk, and keep all materials to a consistent, high standard.
  • Run the investment committee paper process: deadlines, templates, version control and circulation, and record decisions afterwards.
  • Draft memos, emails, speaking notes and internal communications for the CIO and Chief of Staff.
  • Keep an up-to-date view of the portfolio, pipeline and key projects (status, key dates, upcoming decisions and risks).
  • Run the team’s operating rhythm (weekly meetings, agendas and minutes) and follow actions through to completion across the team, trading desks and support functions.
  • Act as first point of contact for requests into the Team and help resolve, route or escal as needed, and make sure nothing falls through the cracks.
  • Work with the CIO’s executive assistant on diary priorities and travel, so leadership time goes where it matters most.
  • Coordinate the team’s input into group-wide processes such as budgeting, strategy reviews and board materials, and act as the link with Finance, HR, Risk, Compliance, Legal and IT.
  • Manage team logistics: onboarding, directories and access, offsites and events, and recruitment scheduling.
  • Identify and implement process improvements.

About you

  • 2–5 years' experience in a Chief of Staff, Founder's Associate, Business Management, consulting, banking or similar role.
  • Excellent PowerPoint skills and strong Excel; able to turn rough input into clear, polished materials quickly.
  • Highly organised, with a reliable system for managing competing priorities and following through.
  • Able to anticipate what senior people will need before they ask for it.
  • Absolute discretion and sound judgement with confidential information.
  • Confident, clear communicator, comfortable working with senior stakeholders and holding them to deadlines.
  • Degree-level education or equivalent.
  • Skills in tools such as Power BI or Python.
