The Mercure Newcastle George Washington Hotel Golf and Spa is an independently owned hotel, golf and leisure complex located on the outskirts of Newcastle upon Tyne. The hotel has been awarded and become an AA 4 Star Hotel. The Washington-based hotel offers a convenient location for visitors to the Tyne and Wear region with easy access to the major road network and within 15 minutes of Newcastle upon Tyne, Sunderland and Durham.
As a Receptionist, you will take care of the guests from the moment they arrive through to their departure by ensuring they have a memorable experience with us. We need reliable people who speak with a smile and deliver a warm welcome. You’ll be the public face of the hotel – and your public will expect you to be an expert in many areas. You’ll have good knowledge of our facilities and services, understand billing and messaging, and even advise on local tourist attractions.

What You Will Be Doing
- Deliver excellent customer service with an informed, friendly and effective approach.
- Provide professional, friendly and efficient Reception service to all guests of the hotel.
- Maintain standards of hospitality as laid down by hotel and company policies and procedures.
- Welcome all guests on their arrival and assist them in a courteous, helpful manner with registration and check-out.
- Ensure the hotel cash handling and credit procedures are followed and report any discrepancies to your Supervisor immediately.
- Operate the hotel switchboard, ensuring that all messages are correctly handled and processed to guests’ rooms immediately.
- Monitor all guest accounts and ensure all charges posted are correct with supporting documentation.
- Take reservations and event bookings according to company standard during busy periods.
- Upsell all hotel facilities to guests, with incentives for each upsell and revenue generation.
- Ensure the security of guest valuables, departmental keys and floats.
- Deal with guest enquiries, either by email, telephone, letter or face to face.
Qualifications
- Service focused personality is essential.
- At least one year’s experience working front of house in a hotel, ideally on reception.
- Good general education and excellent customer service skills.
Experience Is An Asset
- Prior experience working with Opera or a related system.
- Fluency in English; additional languages are a plus.
